Jinan, capital of Shandong province, is accelerating the development of its vertical large model industry, fostering innovation across sectors.

In sectors such as healthcare and energy, Jinan's vertical large AI models are finding real-world applications for advanced technologies. Innovations range from smart glasses that assist nurses with medical procedures to AI-driven emergency response systems for power grids, significantly improving operational efficiency and precision.

The rapid growth of Jinan's vertical large model industry is closely linked to the city's thriving software sector. Thanks to years of deep industry engagement by local application software enterprises, Jinan has cultivated a strong foundation of specialized products that support and drive AI model development.

As of 2024, Jinan is home to 58 key large AI model enterprises - accounting for 46.77 percent of the provincial total - with business revenues reaching 1.4 billion yuan ($194 million). A total of 66 large AI model products are currently under development or already in use across the city.

"Jinan is gathering AI projects from enterprises and identifying application scenarios with key companies to better match supply and demand, expand usage, and boost Jinan's AI industry development," said Zhao Peicai, director of the artificial intelligence industry division at the municipal bureau of industry and information technology.
