Jinan hosted its first International Spring Water Coffee Carnival from May 15 to 17 in the old commercial port area, highlighting the city's evolving consumer landscape and its growing appeal as a destination for cultural and lifestyle tourism.
The three-day event brought together more than 70 domestic and international coffee brands, attracting exhibitors from cities including Shanghai, Nanjing, and Guiyang. Coffee brewed with water sourced from Jinan's springs was a defining feature of the event.
A major part of the carnival was the Jinan division of the 2026 China Barista Championship, an official event under the World Coffee Championships system. Professional baristas competed in brewing and latte art categories before internationally certified judges.
Local brands also drew public interest by blending traditional flavors with modern coffee trends. Chaoyixing fast food restaurant's coffee brand, Xinyi Coffee, became one of the event's most popular attractions with its creative Bazhirou braised pork-inspired coffee, highlighting how local flavors can be reimagined through modern coffee culture.
