Qingdao's coastal scenery and cultural attractions—such as the Beer Festival—have continued to draw crowds since the start of the tourism peak season, with many visitors opting for the metro as their preferred, efficient mode of travel, driving a strong surge in ridership.

Qingdao Metro's network recorded 2.1371 million passenger trips on August 12, breaking both its non-holiday and peak-season single-day ridership records for the second time this year. 7 stations on Line 4—Taishan Road, Changle Road, Anzi, Cang'an Road, Sichuan Road (Ferry), Xiaogang, and Buxi—also posted all-time highs. Line 4 itself reached a new single-day record with 254,700 passengers.

Daily ridership nearing 2 million has become the new normal during the peak travel season—a testament to public trust in the metro system and a vivid reflection of Qingdao's urban vitality and appeal.

Qingdao Metro announced the extension of its daily operating hours to 18 hours and 46 minutes this year during the peak tourist season, enabling service for over 10,000 additional passengers per day—surpassing last year's figures. It is also the first peak season in which the metro network offers full coverage across land, sea, and air transport connections. With extended hours, the metro achieved a 99.68% transfer coverage rate with China Railway services to ensure full night-time connectivity to all railway stations along its routes, and a 90.27% coverage rate for transfers to the airport. Major transport hubs now handle about 300,000 passengers daily, the highest level on record.
