The 2025 Women's ILCA 6 and Men's ILCA 7 World Championships opened in Qingdao on the evening of May 11. Deputy Party Chief of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and Director of the Municipal United Front Work Department Zhang Hui attended the opening ceremony.
As an Olympic-class, World Sailing A-Class event, this year's ILCA World Championships serve as a crucial qualifier on the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. It also marks the first time Qingdao is hosting the event. More than 300 athletes and coaches from over 50 countries and regions have registered to compete. Held at the Qingdao International Sailing Center from May 10 to 17, the championships feature both qualifying and final rounds to determine the world champions in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes. Co-hosted by the International Laser Class Association (ILCA), the Water Sports Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Yachting Association, the Shandong Provincial Sports Bureau, and the Qingdao People's Municipal Government, t4he event aims to promote global sailing exchange and inspire a new generation of sailors.
Local officials Luan Xin, Zhao Shengcun, and Bo Tao were also present at the opening.
