Jinan's new energy equipment industry surpassed 75 billion yuan ($11.08 billion) in 2025 and strives to exceed 90 billion yuan this year, underscoring the city's high-quality development.

The sector's rise is rooted in its strong industrial foundation. Companies such as CRRC Shandong Wind Power Co Ltd and Shandong Power Equipment Company (SPECO) have evolved from traditional manufacturing enterprises into major players in the new energy equipment industry. CRRC Shandong Wind Power has grown into a wind power equipment manufacturer with annual revenue exceeding 10 billion yuan, while SPECO has developed into the world's largest single-plant research and manufacturing base for transformers by production capacity.

To accelerate industrial upgrading, Jinan has focused on building a comprehensive new energy ecosystem covering wind, solar, nuclear, hydrogen, energy storage, next-generation batteries and advanced power equipment. Targeted policies and industrial clustering have helped create new growth momentum.

Innovation has become a key driver of the sector's expansion. Shandong Chuanglu Advanced Battery Technology Co Ltd has achieved breakthroughs in solid-state and sodium-ion battery technologies, with its solid-state batteries showcasing significantly higher safety than conventional liquid-electrolyte batteries in cutting and nail penetration tests.

Meanwhile, SCETL has rapidly expanded its energy storage business, increasing annual production capacity from less than 1 gigawatt-hour to 20 GWh and ranking among China's top five energy storage suppliers by shipment volume in 2025. Over the past decade, SPECO has also achieved breakthroughs in the core technologies behind ultra-high-voltage transformers and converter transformers, helping its products reach global markets.
