With more than 13,000 young athletes, 1,620 gold medals, and 38 sports, the 26th Shandong Provincial Games are the largest in the event's 76‑year history. The opening ceremony was held on Aug 26 at Linyi Olympic Sports Park.

The games, first held in 1950, are the province's largest and most prestigious multi-sport event for youth athletes. This year's edition has set new records in scale, with the number of events increasing by 19 percent from the previous Games.

The competition follows a phased schedule. Preliminary rounds ran from March 25 to July 17, and the finals are divided into two stages: early events held across multiple cities and the main competitions during the games period. By Aug 25, 27 sports and 768 events had been completed, with 1,220 gold medals awarded.

The games will continue through Sept 5, when the closing ceremony will take place at Linyi Olympic Sports Park.
