在陈绝粮，从者病莫能兴。子路愠见曰：“君子亦有穷乎？”子曰：“君子固穷，小人穷斯滥矣。”

When Confucius was in Chan, their provisions were exhausted, and his followers became so in that they were unable to rise.

Zi Lu, with evident dissatisfaction, said, "Has the superior man likewise to endure in this way?" Confucius said, "The superior man may indeed have to endure want, but the mean man, when he is in want, gives way to unbridled license."

陳に在りて糧を絶つ。従者病みて能く興つ莫し。子路慍りて見えて曰く、君子も亦窮すること有るか。子曰く、君子固より窮す。小人窮すれば斯に濫す。
