Folk artist Liu Caihong from Yantai, East China's Shandong province, has introduced the local art of paper-cutting to a global audience, sharing Chinese traditional culture and conveying the charm of Eastern aesthetics.

Liu taught foreign friends Yantai paper-cutting at a recent dragon boat carnival event held in Paris, France. The paper-cutting works created by her and her husband have been avidly collected by European cultural institutions and private collectors, receiving widespread acclaim.

On regular days, she creates in her studio located in Yantai Huang-Bohai Sea New Area (HBSNA), where numerous artistic treasures are born.

"My family has been paper cutting for generations. When I was young, I would watch as my grandparents cut various patterns out of paper, which I found particularly magical." Recalling the wonderful childhood moments spent with paper-cutting, she said that growing up in such an environment naturally gave her a love for the art form.

Paper-cutting art cannot be fixed in traditional styles; it requires innovation. With this in mind, she has closely followed urban development trends over the years, integrating this art with iconic buildings in HBSNA such as the Time Tower and Jiahe Bridge, creating hundreds of modern and artistic paper cutting pieces. These traditional yet trendy works have successfully bridged the gap between the younger generation and traditional art.
